Martin Doyle is a UK based indie film director with his own approach and voice in cinema, with interests in the dramatic, the everyday, the unusual and the fantastic. Having amassed over 20 years as an actor in many styles of performance arts, Martin has also written and directed numerous comedy and theatre performances from an early age.
When he started his transition to cinematic storytelling, he decided to create six short films in different genres and styles to learn how to tell stories on the big screen. This led to a better understanding of the tools used in the main filmmaking areas such as producing, lighting, music, cinematography, editing and special effects.
Martin specialises in thrillers, comedy and science fiction. His films are full of strong imagery, unusual plots, thought provoking notions, and richly layered characters. Stories told with genuine drama and humour. Martin finds working with visual effects like second nature and is always able to tap into the humanity of his characters and their situation, be it on either a green screen, on set or a location. He's extremely creative, imagining great worlds in which his characters live and aspire, or addressing the big challenges facing us all today on both a macro and micro level. He also works extremely well with crew and cast - he's considered to be an 'actor's director' and is a great technician as well as creative artist.
His first post-experimental short film 'Y Sci Fi' was shown at six festivals in 2012 including the Phoenix International Film Festival, Roswell Sci-Fi Festival and TriCon. His current short 'Mr Pencils Creative Persuasion' was shown at the 2014 London Short Film Festival and is still on the short film circuit.- Martin Doyle is known for Ben-Hur (1988).
